The IOP hosts Chicago Treks in partnership with the Harris School's Center for Effective Government and the Crown Family School. Each trek offers 20 students the chance to dive into a political issue area through meeting with a broad range of public service practitioners.

Communities have long sought effective healing practices for those who have suffered violent injuries. The nationally acclaimed University of Chicago Medicine's Violence Recovery Program (VRP) has provided extensive support services to thousands of patients and served as an exemplar for peer institutions tackling this issue area. We will explore how direct intervention can reduce risk of further victimization and the connections to urban health policy.

Join us on Friday, January 31 at Edith Abbott Hall (969 E. 60th St.) at 9:00am to learn about the context and history of the trauma center, how patients are served, and have a broader conversation about violence prevention efforts across the United States.

Together, we will travel University Medical Center and hear from speakers like Violence Recovery Specialist Carlos Robles and Executive Director of Community & External Affairs, Dr. Franklin Cosey-Gay. Other panelists include Dwayne Johnson, Tre Nowaczynski, and Priya Prakash. Speakers are subject to change.
