Civic Engagement
The IOP hosts Chicago Treks in partnership with the Harris School's Center for Effective Government and the Crown Family School. Each trek offers 20 students the chance to dive into a political issue area through meeting with a broad range of public service practitioners.
Chicago’s economic importance has been long established regionally, nationally, and globally. In fact, the total economic contribution of the Chicago Metropolitan Area is as large as some mid-sized European countries. In a post COVID world, how has Chicago shown resiliency and which areas still need recovery? We’ll explore the dynamic processes which maintain Chicago’s position as an economic leader and how policy stakeholders are contributing to Chicago’s economic development future on this policy trek. Join us on Friday, February 21 where we will explore what economic development is, why it matters, and how it shapes the fabric of communities large and small. Speakers for this Trek include: Abin Kuriakose (CLA’18) (World Business Chicago), Cindy Roubik (CLA’22) (Chicago Dept of Planning and Development), and Eleanor Gorski (CLA’18) (Chicago Architecture Center). Speakers are subject to change. |
