A longtime guardian of strong presidential power, Bill Barr — one of only two people in American history to serve twice as Attorney General — evolved from Donald Trump’s most skilled and proficient policy defenders to calling the former president, among other things, “detached from reality.” But unlike many conservatives who have turned against his former boss, Barr has continued to pave his own complex and colorful public persona, hewing closely to the beliefs that brought him into public life.
