Practitioners In Residence: Enemies to Colleagues (Are we friends now?)

IOP Practitioner in Residence Greg Hart (Booth ’21) and then Illinois State Rep. Deb Conroy each ran heated campaigns in 2022 for DuPage County Board Chair in the Chicago suburbs (we have the receipts to show you with the negative ads). Deb won, and Greg lost. They will share their story of turning the page from campaign hate to a new chapter of governing friendship and reliance on each other.

Prior to becoming the first female and Democratic DuPage County Board Chair in 2022, Conroy served in the Illinois State House of Representatives for 10 years. Though Greg and Chair Conroy ran against each other in a very competitive County Chair race in 2022, Greg now often works alongside Chair Conroy to advocate for the Village of Hinsdale to the County Board.

Greg and Chair Conroy will discuss how to work with former election opponents, professionalism after campaigns, and what collaboration between cities and counties looks like.

Career Development and Practitioner in Residence workshops are off the record and open to current UChicago students only. Seating in the IOP Living Room is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
