Description
IOP Pritzker Fellow Nancy French on "Forgiveness in the Era of Division"
THIS SEMINAR IS OPEN TO CURRENT UCHICAGO STUDENTS ONLY
Monday, April 20
12:15-1:30pm
What does it mean to forgive? In a political age that rewards outrage and never forgets a tweet, Americans are in a difficult position: we need reconciliation, but we’ve forgotten what that means. (And frankly, no one really wants it.) In this final seminar, we’ll explore the radical, often misunderstood idea of political forgiveness - what it is, what it isn’t and whether it’s even possible in a democracy defined by deep disagreement. Featuring guest David French, Iraq War veteran and New York Times columnist, the conversation will draw on our experiences of political conflict in public life. Can forgiveness and justice coexist?
Special Guest: David French, Columnist for the New York Times
