Are you interested in a career in public health, or curious about how health policy is shaped by national leaders? Join us for a Career Workshop featuring Dr. Susan Coller Monarez — the first Senate-confirmed Director of the Centers for Disease Control, founding leader of the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), and former senior White House advisor on national security and science policy.
In this workshop, Dr. Monarez will explore the benefits and risks of AI-enabled technologies in healthcare and life sciences, examining whether these tools represent transformative breakthroughs, temporary fixes, or emerging challenges that demand careful oversight. She will also share insights from her career shaping U.S. biosecurity strategy, leading innovation across government, and responding to global public-health emergencies — including her path from microbiologist to directing the CDC.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about careers in public health, innovation, and policy, and to ask questions directly of a leader at the forefront of healthcare and national security.
Career Development and Practitioner in Residence workshops are off the record and open to current UChicago students only.
