Eyewitness to History: Marc Short, former Chief of Staff to VP Pence

Please join the Institute of Politics in person as we welcome Marc Short, former chief of staff to Vice President Mike Pence. Before serving as Pence’s chief of staff, Short was legislative director for former President Trump. These two roles put Short many times in the “room where it happened” throughout the Trump presidency. IOP Founding Director David Axelrod will moderate a conversation with Short and talk about the tax cut bill of 2017, being with Pence on January 6, 2021 when the Capitol was stormed, and much more.

Short is a leading Republican strategist whose experience includes the private sector, statewide and national campaigns, Capitol Hill, and the Executive Branch. He has been a frequent guest on cable news and Sunday TV shows. He is married and lives in Arlington, Virginia with his wife and three children.

This convening is open to all invitees who are compliant with UChicago vaccination requirements and, because of ongoing health risks, particularly to the unvaccinated, participants are expected to adopt the risk mitigation measures (masking and social distancing, etc.) appropriate to their vaccination status as advised by public health officials or to their individual vulnerabilities as advised by a medical professional. Public convening may not be safe for all and carries a risk for contracting COVID-19, particularly for those unvaccinated. Participants will not know the vaccination status of others and should follow appropriate risk mitigation measures.
