IOP Board Member Shailagh Murray most recently worked as the Executive Vice President for Public Affairs at Columbia University where she oversaw the Office of Communications and Public Affairs and the Office of Government and Community Affairs. She previously spent nearly six years shaping communications strategy inside the Obama White House, including as Senior Advisor to President Obama from 2015 to 2017. Prior to that, she was Vice President Biden’s deputy chief of staff and communications director. Her career also included many years as a political journalist and foreign correspondent for The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post. She has a B.A. in humanities from University of Missouri-Columbia and a Master’s in Journalism from Northwestern University.
