Description

IOP Pritzker Fellow Vanita Gupta on "Civil Rights Is Not a Side Street, It’s a Thoroughfare: State of Civil Rights Today"

THIS SEMINAR IS OPEN TO CURRENT UCHICAGO STUDENTS ONLY

Tuesday, April 30

12:30-1:45pm

A lot of foundational principles in the U.S. are now in question or have even been upended, including core achievements of the civil rights movement. And while civil rights law is often viewed as limited to things like fair housing and policing, Gupta’s work both in and out of government takes a more expansive view of the place of civil rights in American society. Civil rights touches almost every area of government and civic life, from environmental justice to antitrust enforcement to reproductive rights to economic opportunity. Hear about Gupta’s approaches, and how she views the challenges, land mines, and opportunities ahead.

Pritzker Fellows seminars are off the record and open to current UChicago students only. Seating in the IOP Living Room is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
